How to use the Detail Boundary tool in ACA

Hello CAD enthusiasts. I am using ACA 2011 and I trying to figure out the Detail Boundary tool. I know what it does but I don't know how to do it? I get stuck on the following commands and what exactly I could or should be entering at the following prompts: Specify elevation for plan section followed by specify depth of plan section. If you know what these terms mean and what I should do please reply with step by step instructions. Also, am I to assume that the Detail boundary will produce a detail image within the same drawing or will it create a completely new drawing with the detail?
