Someone is trying to tell me that AutoDesk has recommended to use 0.5 for LTSCALE. Has anyone heard anything about this? It just does not make sense to me.

I haven't seen that but I find .5 works well for me and the type of work I create.

I think AutoDesk might be trying to "fix" a long standing issue with the linetypes. I've always defaulted to an LTSCALE of 1.0 but I've also used the "2" versions of the linetypes because HIDDEN, CENTER, DASHED are way to big.

I remember vaguely reading something about the LTS being set to 1 follows the ANSI standards, but I have also read that most firms use an LTS of .5 as it looks much better. Ill see if I can dig up the forum from my history, I believe it was on AUGI.

We use CELTSCALE = 1.00, LTSCALE = 1.00, MSLTSCALE = 1, and PSLTSCALE = 1 without issue.

You need to look at what .lin you are using is it ISO metric or Feet this can change the way Ltscale is used if you open up say Acad.lin theres obvious numbers like 0.375 0.125 these equate directly to 3/8" & 1/8" for those in feet after all Autocad did start in USA.

In a govt traffic .Lin for metric plans in metres all the line types are set to a scale of 1 a 3m line with a 6m gap =

*MRR_L3, Line - Separation 9x3

A,3.0,-9.0

Most of us are very familiar with the function of linetype scales and that it is good practice to use 1.0, especially if you share you files. Also, we need to use HIDDEN2, CENTER2, DASHED2, etc. because using HIDDEN, CENTER, DASHED, etc. will net you lots of continuous lines. Some further research revealed that AutoCAD vertical products have the default LTSCALE set to 0.5. I started this discussion because my company recently upgraded from a much older version to MEP2011 and CAD management here has insisted that we use 0.5 because that's the OOTB setting. This seems borderline insane on his part because all of our standards are based on 1.0 and this change makes all of our linetypes show half the size that they were before. How can someone in that position make such a broadbrushed change without realizing the implications?

As a vertical user since my first day of CAD, I've never heard of, nor seen this in my limited experience.

I was curious, and so I checked Civil 3D 2011/2012, AMEP 2011/2012, and Land Desktop Companion 2009... All have an 'initial value' of 1.00 in OOTB Profiles.

So... Just set CELTSCALE = 2.

Although I did not check it personally, I did here it from multiple sources that 0.5 is the default. We are using AMEP2011 and I'm pretty sure he used an OOTB template with some minor adjustments.

Not sure who your 'sources' are (or what they're looking at!?), but using the OOTB application icon, template, etc.:

Lots of OOTB settings get changed immediately by the user, why should this one not be subject to adjustment based on what that office deems is best for their situation?

That's what you would think would be the thing to do, I thought I may have been missing something.

Here's one.

To site post #7 of Rob's duplicate thread:

My rule, use LT Scale 1 and make your line types plot properly with the definition, cause why in the hell would 0.5 be normal instead of 1? But thats just me.
