JamFam Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Hello all. I'm using ACA 2011. I've used the section tool a few times now with pretty decent results. However now when I use it (in the same drawing) the section that is generated is missing objects like doors, windows, stairs and railing. The first image shows the section drawn from left to right. Image 2 shows what the finished section looks like.Note: In the past when I've drawn the section I'm prompted to draw the section window and as I move my cursor I can see a selection window. This time when prompted and I move the cursor I don't get any selection window. If you can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong or need to check please reply Quote
the downing effect Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I've never used Architectural but it looks like you are getting just an intersection with the section plane, are there any options under the section command? Quote
JamFam Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 None that I'm aware of. The cut plane is set to it's default and I've ticked off just about every box I can think of within the view managers box but I still get a partial section. Most frustrating. Quote
Dadgad Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Are you sure that you weren't using a DETAIL command when you were offered a window selection? As you are selecting your SECTION PLANE location in plan, you will have to define it with a line, not a window. And thus the view will display only that which falls ON the section plane, as tde noted in the previous post. In another orthographic view (except for Bottom) I would expect you to get the window option you describe. Quote
JamFam Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 From the Callouts tab I chose Section Mark A1. I placed my cursor to the outside of the left wall then dragged the cursor all away across the floor plan to the right, to exit out the exterior wall, then clicked the mouse. I moved my cursor up to place the indicator arrow (or whatever it's called) then pressed the spacebar. I am then prompted to specify section extents. That's when, as I move the cursor, I see the selection window as you can see in this image. Once I've made my section selection I press enter and I'm prompted with a small dialogue box, I choose current drawing, like I've done before and then place the section somewhere within the same drawing, no problem. Why I can't do the same thing now is confusing. Quote
Dadgad Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Sorry I am not more familiar with the Architecture desktop, but I would guess that the SECTION which is being generated can only be an ELEVATION view. I think the CUTLINE may be what you need to adjust, when in a PLAN view. But be careful, that is just speculation on my part. You might want to create a copy of your drawing and experiment with it, lest you mess up your working version. Reading the commandline prompts you can see that points defining a line are being requested. Quote
JamFam Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Here's a work around. I copied the drawing over into another drawing that I can do the section without any issue and sectioned it without any problem. I would still like to know what is different in drawing number 5 (the problem drawing)from drawing number 3 (the drawing that doesn't have this problem)that is causing this issue. As I make progressive changes to the drawing I save it as the next sequential number. i.e. plan 4, plan 5 plan 6 etc etc. If I figure it out I will post an update. Thanks. Quote
