Combine several separate drawings into one multi-tab drawing? Help!!

I have 10 separate drawing files that I want to combine into one drawing

and I want each drawing to be on a separate layout.

I want to end up with one drawing with 10 layout tabs each containing the graphics from one drawing.

Each drawing has one layout with the graphics on it.

No fancy paper space / model space stuff.

No viewport scaling.

 

I thought this could be done via Design Center but I've never used that.

 

I'm looking for input on the quickest way to achieve this.

I may have to do this over and over.

 

Please advise (and instruct)

Are the models all on the same coordianates in model space? I.e. is it likely that the model from drawing 1 overlap with the model from drawing 2?

You can't magically bring a DWG file and it's Layout into another file without a lot of pre planning and manipulation in the top file.So explain what part of DesignCenter did not work for you so that folks here can start walking you through the long process of getting you where you need to be.

They do things differently here where I work.

Each drawing exists SOLELY in a layout tab.

There is nothing in model space. Both the drawing entities

and the title block are on the same layout tab.

(Not my idea, it's how they do it and they're not open to discussion) :-\

 

Items physically on the same coordinates are not a problem.

 

To do this manually this is what I would do.

 

In OldDrawing01.dwg I would select all and copy to the clip board

then close OldDrawing01.dwg.

 

In the NEW drawing I would go to Layout1, delete the portal/viewport and paste to 0,0.

I would create Layout2.

 

In OldDrawing02.dwg I would select all and copy to the clip board

then close OldDrawing02.dwg.

 

In the NEW drawing I would go to Layout2, delete the portal/viewport and paste to 0,0.

I would create Layout3.

 

Etc.. Etc.. Etc.

 

In DesignCenter, I didn't know what to do...

Open the drawing you are adding the Layouts into

open Design Center and browse to the drawing that has the Layout you want to add

select the + next to the drawing

select Layouts, all layouts should open in an area at upper right

right click the Layout to be added to your drawing

select "Add Layout(s)".

I thought you'd drag and drop.

You can also drag and drop, just skip

 

right click the Layout to be added to your drawing

select "Add Layout(s)".

 

and click and hold, drag to AutoCAD drawing, release.
