I am trying to use AutoCAD 2013 to create a complicated roof. What is the best way to extend 3D solid roof planes and to trim 3d Solid roof planes that intersect each other? I have tried slicing and can't quite get the hang of it!

You might try using the Slice command with the Surface option.

Converted the 3d solid roof planes to a surface, and tried to slice out the offending roof planes, but no dice...

I would have left the roof a solid and sliced it using an extruded line (surface).

i think some of the roof is not possible..

There are indeed problems with the roof...when I asked the architect for clarification, he said "make it work." :-)

"Make it work."

Who gets paid more?

Well I for one will be interested in how you make lemonade out of the lemon the architect gave you.

ReMark: This is my first foray into 3D Modeling for Architecture...and I am finding 3d Solid tools in AutoCAD 2013 cumbersome...particularly the editing. I suppose they incorporated the real Architectural tools into Revit. Anyhoo, I'll post the lemonade when finished. And I am pretty sure he gets paid more.

Here is what AEC's Roof Tool came up with based on your general roof plan layout.

The only thing I modified was add the two gable ends. At least you can see how your roof valleys and hips need to join up...

KC - Thanks for the help! There are some exceptions to the roof to the one you've provided I have to honor...when done I will post.

Great job! Thanks for the help, and for plugging the holes! When I am done rendering I will post.

First foray into 3D modeling and rendering, including photoshop for the grass and background. Thanks for your help!
