AutoCAD 2012 - moving dimension text

I just went from AutoCAD 2011 to 2012.

I move dims manually around quite often.

In 2011 I could select dim, Right click, Type "X" to bring up the move dim sub menu, Then either "M" to move dim alone or "L" to move it with a leader.

I can't seem to do that in 2012. I have to hover the mouse over the dim text grip point and wait for a menu to pop-up.

Obviously the former is way faster and I would like that back.

Does anyone know off hand how to do this?

I've tried google but I'm not getting the answer.

Also on a side note, I'm noticing 2012 to be ever so slightly slower. Micro second delays here and there. Extremely annoying when you're used to instant commands. Biggest culprit seems to be the move command. It hangs for a split second when I invoke the command. (and no I don't have properties up). Is this something I just need to get used too?

Thanks in advance.

Just grab the grip and move the text, pull above the dim line and a leader is added. I am on 2013 so I can't confirm for 2012.

And no, there should be no hesitation in 2012. The most obvious things to set are, turn hardware acceleration on, turn Windows Aero off.

Thanks for the input but that doesn't work for me.

My dimensions are set-up to pull the dim lines and extension lines with the text.

And I figured out my micro-second delay issue, it was my mouse...

I have a 14 button mouse that has macro's set-up. For some reason the ACad 2012 and the software for the mouse don't like each other. If I use keyboard commands it operators perfect.

I have a temporary fix by saving the macro's directly on board the mouse' memory and uninstalling the software for the mouse.

Just putting it out there in case someone else stumbles upon this thread years from now.

I understand what you mean, I used to use that shortcut menu option all the time too.

If you could figure out the MACROS used in 2011 you could add them to the DIMENSION SHORTCUT MENU in your CUI.

I suggest that you choose whichever text position you are most likely to use as an alternate position, either over dimension line, with leader,

or over dimension line, without leader, then check Position Text Manually. In that way relocating your text is quite fast, with the dimension line,

and as rkent mentioned you can set it to default with or without a leader when you stray from the normal text position.

In that way you only need to use the dynamic grip hover menu when you choose the least likely option for it. :)

got it: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-2012/Dim-Text-Position/td-p/3024016

Here are the steps cut and pasted from the above link in case it ever disappears.

For anyone else who wants the old Dim Text Position right-click menu back do the following:

►edit your CUI

►expand "Shortcut Menus"

└ Dimension Objects Menu

►right click "Dimension Objects Menu" and select "New Sub-Menu", name new submenu "Dim Text Position" and adjust the order you want it to show up at.

►search your command list for each of the commands listed below and add any or all of those commands under your "Dim Text Position" sub-menu

"move with leader"

"move with dim line"

"move text alone"

"home text"

"centered"

"above dim line"

►Apply/OK

And just add the & before the letter you want the keyboard shortcut for. So your sub-menu name for "Dim Text Position" would become "Dim Te&xt Position".
