CADLee Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I was wondering if there was a way to always make a specific drawing open when AutoCAD starts. For instance when you start it, the file that always opens is acad.dwt I was wondering if there was a way to make it open a drawing you might be working on. Then you always wouldn't have to click so many times to open it and find the folder it was in and so on. You start AutoCAD and there it is when AutoCAD starts. You can get right to work and not have to look for it. Thnks yall for the help. Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Do you mean the "last" drawing you were working on? Quote
CADLee Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 The last drawing or for instance if I use a certain template all the time. Rather than AutoCAD opening the default template, ACAD.DWT. It would open the template that I use? Is that possible? Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Create your own DWT and place it in the same folder as all of the other template files. Now, every time you start a new drawing it will grab this template that will have all your layers, linetypes, text styles, dimension styles, etc. already set up and ready to go. Quote
Dadgad Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 After you have decided on one to use, or better yet, created a .dwt which you would be comfortable using as a starting point you will need to specify it as your default template. Go into your OPTIONS, as shown in the image ......... as long as you are creating a default template, you might as well make sure you have the drawing units sets as you want them. Use the -DWGUNITS command, and follow the commandline prompts, you might want to hit F2 while doing this so you can see more than 2 lines at a time. Quote
CADLee Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Thank yall, I really appreciate the help and that is just what I was looking for. I knew there was a way, but I was looking in the wrong place. I was looking in the Open and Save part and not the File Location. But I got it now. Thank yall kindly again. Quote
Dadgad Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Happy to help. As I reread your first post it occurs to me that you may not be aware of the RECENT DRAWINGS list which can be found by clicking the arrow which I have circled in red in the image. There are a few options both for how they are sorted and displayed in the list, as images or just drawing names, which is much easier than tracking your recent work down in their respective folders. In addition to setting up a search path for YOUR Templates, you might also set up search path for YOUR Projects. Quote
CADLee Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Yes I knew about the RECENT FILES, but that is not what I meant. What I meant is what you answered for me. IN the FILES go to Template settings. That is what I was wanting to do. So all is good now. Thanks again. Quote
