Is there a way to transfer the settings of one autocad to another computer?

My work station at work has autocad set up with alot of tool bars and windows open. Is there a way i can save that and import those same settings so i can have a exact copy of my works Autocad at home too?

I hope this explains what i mean. :glare:

Do both computers use the same OS? WinXP and Win7 computers use a different folder structure that's why I ask.

Yes, they both use windows 7. Will a difference of program years affect any i can do this?

At my work I use AutoCad 2011 and at home I use AutoCAD 2012

(sup ReMark! :D)

It sounds to me like you're wanting to replicate your Workspace... Which is done via CUI(x).

Perhaps familiarizing yourself with the Migrate and Transfer Custom Settings and Files section of the Customization Guide would be prudent.

What about the differences between each release though as far as the features/commands? Could that be something to be concerned about?

Yes, one should always consider any major version change (i.e., R14 --> 2013, etc.), but as the OP has listed that they are using AutoCAD 2012, I wouldn't be that concerned.

Port all of your customizations to a custom CUIx, and load (a copy of) it as partial in the secondary machine, or version.

The only areas where one should anticipate more complications is when using heavily customized code in dependent ARX/NET apps (as those are processor, and .NET Framework dependent) especially when moving to 2013 (thank you AcCoreMdg.dll!), or when using a Vertical such as Civil 3D, etc. But even then, most of anything you could include in a CUIx is fine.

Great I will look into that, and save it on a flash drive and see what I can do.

I'd load it as a custom CUIx which you can move from version to version.

Config, Files, Customization Files, Main Customization File, this will show the name and location of the current CUI you are using. You should copy this rename (always a good idea), on new box copy to this location start Autocad and change to the new Cui.

Far better though like the others start creating custom partial menus.

I just added screen menus at home its a partial mnu. A few seconds work using Menuload.

You can also do all your Config Files settings if you want via lisp, printers, support paths, temp directory etc.

Does Autocad 2011 have the SYSVDLG function?

If so you can save a .svf (system variable file) which will contain all of your system variable preferences.

This can later be READ to the SYSVDLG in 2012.

The SYSVDLG must be connected to the Express edit variables option. Good idea though very simple.

Excellent ideas and information guys. I will try this when I get home.
