fahim108 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 There's this font called Kozuka (with a Gothic and Mincho version) installed on my PC. As far as I know, it got installed through some Adobe application. Now, the problem is that I can use it in all the Windows applications but not in AutoCAD, where the MTEXT window doesn't list the font. Interestingly, this font is quite heavy, with a file size of over 3.5MB but then there are others too which fall in this "heavy-weight category" but are displayed in AutoCAD without any issues. Quote
MSasu Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 From the screen-shot of your fonts collection seems that the said trouble-maker font is in fact an OTF (Open Type Font) type and not a TTF (True Type Font) one. I'm pretty sure that OTF type weren't supported in AutoCAD 2008. Quote
fahim108 Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 Bulls-eye! You are correct, Open Type Fonts are not compatible with any AutoCAD version... http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=7445175&linkID=9240617 Quote
MSasu Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 After some research, seems that by changing the extension to TTF, some OTF fonts may be recognised by AutoCAD. If decide to try this, don't forget to do it on a copy, for sure. Quote
sparkyuk Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Just remember if you ever send the cad file to anyone else they will not be able to load that font unless you send it to them, this has happened to me from files I have received many times. I think its best to stick to normal fonts myself Quote

fahim108 Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 ...by changing the extension to TTF, some OTF fonts may be recognised by AutoCAD... Didn't work for me, though! But never mind, I used Corel instead (it supports OTF fonts)! ...I think its best to stick to normal fonts myself... I fully agree to that. However, in this case I was only supposed to print the file and not send it. ...eTransmit setup to send files... Sure, I do use that a lot of times... cheers! Thanks all for your help! Quote

I was bitten by that a couple times. Now I bind Xrefs and use only common fonts, etc. Linetypes are in the drawing. Quote
