oegel Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I might be the only one in the world that gets really annoyed with those yellow text box popup tips every time the cursor passes over an item. The balloon tip that pops up is just an explanation of what the item is for or what it does when selected. I think I would be pretty safe in guessing that whenever a balloon tip appears there is a help button to go to if anyone really needs or wants to know about any particular item. So, to put an end to my frustration and annoyance, I would very much love to learn how these things can be disabled or turned off. I did find somewhere, a while ago, a way to edit the registry. But that was when I was using Windows XP. Now I'm using Windows 7 and the only place these balloons get under my skin is in AutoCad. Which is vanilla AutoCad version 2010. I guess I have to give up trying to insert an image. I have a *.jpg file but no matter what folder I put it in this "insert image" function don't or can't see it for some reason. If nobody understands what my post is referring to I'll just have to forget that I posted it. Thanks anyway! Quote
ReMark Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Re: Tooltips. Go to Tools --> Options --> User Preferences. There, uncheck the box that says "Display hyperlink cursor, tooltip, and shortcut menu. Re: JPG IMAGEATTACH It doesn't matter where the jpg is. For all AutoCAD cares it could be on the far side of the moon. As long as you can browse to the right location you should be able to attach it. ReMark Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 System variable = ROLLOVERTIPS Set the value to "0". ROLLOVERTIPS is saved in the current profile. Quote
oegel Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 Thanks ever so much, ReMark!!! I will be a much happier man for the rest of my life. That goes for both of your solutions. Thanks again. Quote
ReMark Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 You're entirely welcomed. BTW...Welcome to the CADTutor forum. Quote
oegel Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 I don't want to be a DORK, but I was so happy to see replies to my post that I was a little hasty in being so happy. When I went to system variable ROLLOVERTIPS it was already set to 0. I think I must not have explained well enough what my problem is. That's what I wanted to attach the image to my post for. Not to attach an image into an Autocad drawing, if that's what I think you might have been talking about in your second post about attaching an image. I didn't explain that situation very well either. What I wanted to say was that I wasn't able to get my screenprint image of the balloon tip attached to my initial post. So I still got the two problems I posted about in the first place. However, don't get me wrong, I still am very pleased with the speed in which my posting was replied to. Quote
Dadgad Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Welcome to CADTutor. There are another set of system variables dealing with tooltips, four of them, as shown in the image. I believe you want to set your TOOLTIPS variable to 0. Were you able to find the MANAGE ATTACHMENTS button in the Additional Options section which you access through the GO ADVANCED button in the lower right hand corner of the reply window? Quote
Dana W Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Type options, click Display tab, and uncheck Show Tool Tips. For the attachment problem, first, click the Go advanced button under your post text window, then click the paperclip icon similar to outlook mail. Then click the Add Files button. Once the image is uploaded, click the Done button. The file upload bot will automaticly attach the new image to your post. Since you did the Go advanced, you should now click the Preview Post button to see what it will look like before it goes live on the forum. Quote
RobDraw Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) I might be the only one in the world that gets really annoyed with those yellow text box popup tips every time the cursor passes over an item. Turn off Quick Properties. 2nd button from the right. Edited August 6, 2012 by RobDraw Quote
ReMark Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I'm pretty sure the OP is asking about the Tooltips feature and not Quick Properties. Quote
RobDraw Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I think you're right. I just read it wrong. Not enough coffee, yet. Quote
oegel Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 Hey Guys, thank you all for your efforts in trying to help in my predicament. Maybe now that I am able to include an attachment with my post, (Many thanks to "Dana W" for setting me straight in the attachment department.) I hope what I'm looking for will be more understandable. However, even though these "balloon tips" that appear are in AutoCad, maybe they are the windows OPSYS that they are coming from. Yet, if there is anyone that can help with some expertise in WINDOWS, I would be very appreciative. And if this is not the place I should be looking for help, I am truly sorry for wasting anyone's time. Popup Text Box.docx Quote

In your attachment, you show tool tips checked on. I am a little confused. Isn't that what you want to turn off? Yes, there are Tool Tips in most Microsoft software and they will be handled by some option in your control panel, but the tool tips in AutoCad are completely separate from Windows and Microsoft. SLW210 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Are you in the OPTIONS dialog so often that those are annoying? Quote
ReMark Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Remove the checkmark as Dana mentioned in Options > Display > Show Tool Tips. Then click on the APPLY button at the bottom of the window. Problem solved. I would also suggest that you disable the option to Show Rollover Tooltips as long as you are there since you obviously don't need that distraction as well. Quote

None of those will prevent the tips from showing in the OPTIONS dialog box. Quote
ReMark Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Are you sure? I believe the first one will. The second one is definitely for working in a drawing. OK...a quick test using AutoCAD 2012. You disable Show Tooltips and it does kill the balloon even in the Options window. Quote

ReMark Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 There's an APPLY button? I thought that was for putting on sunscreen! Quote
