avaninecommuter Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) Hi all, I have attached a screen shot of my problem. The orange items in question are blocks and are just copies of each other. However, the grass hatch underneath shows through the left one and not the right one. I checked the properties of both blocks and they are identical except for x/y position. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks, AC Edited July 31, 2012 by avaninecommuter attachment Quote
MSasu Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Try to call the HATCHEDIT command and check that there is a button named Remove boundaries – use it to select the trouble-maker contour and see if helps. Quote
Dadgad Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Do you have the HATCHTOBACK command available in 2011? Try entering it at the commandline, if it is a recognized command then hit ENTER. It sets the HATCH's draworder to back. You can also do this using the DRAWORDER toolbar. Quote
avaninecommuter Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 Tried both options but it didn't work. When selecting the hatch, this shows up: Why is this last block not selected in the hatch (or better question: why are the other blocks, which are part of a separate layer, selected in the hatch?)? Quote
Dadgad Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 They are not selected, but they are defining the edge of the hatch. Use the DRAWORDER toolbar instead, like I suggested in my last post. You would do well to look at the attached image as it explains some things about how DRAWING ORDER works, and explains the available system variable options. Of course you can always hit F1 to access the Autocad help when looking for more information. Quote
designerstuart Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 DRAWORDER is not the issue here, is it? it looks to me like the problem is that when drawing the hatch, one block is ignored by the boundary detection, and the other is recognised. the result is a hatch that goes round one block, and over/under the other. try deleting the 'island' using hatch edit, or redraw the hatch without the blocks visible (layer control). do you want both blocks hatched around, or ignored? You make a very good point, it has been missed by the island detection in the HATCH command! You can check your ISLAND DETECTION settings in the HATCH EDIT dialogue box. Quote
avaninecommuter Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 Thanks for the feedback. I figured out how to fix it by simply deleting the existing hatch and reapplying it; somehow it missed the blocks the first time but it caught it this time around? Quote
designerstuart Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 the only reason i could think that it would miss one block but not the other is if they have different Z values. glad to help. Quote
