jakeswu Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Hi guys, sorry if this post is in a position where it shouldn't be. I was trying to offset a work plane (following the tutorials in Inventor 2010). I created a plane by selecting 2 Parallel planes (which created one in between). I'm now trying to offset it by a set distance, but the dialog box to specify the distance doesn't appear no matter how long I hold the left mouse button. The work plane can be indefinitely scaled/moved anywhere, it's just that I have no option to specify anything. Hope somebody can provide advice on this matter. Thanks! Quote
kencaz Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 You need to choose "Offset Plane" Then you will get your offset distance dialog Quote
jakeswu Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 Thanks for the response. However, I can't select the Plane after clicking the Thicken/Offset option; the Work Plane just does not highlight. Quote
kencaz Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Send a screenshot or part file so we can better understand your issue... Is this a part or assembly? Here is an offset plane from a midplane. Good Luck Quote
jakeswu Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 It's a part file. As you can see, I'm trying to offset the plane highlighted in blue. However, all I can do is only drag it around (i.e. the olive coloured plane), no dialog or anything for that matter. Quote
czc Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Thanks for the response. However, I can't select the Plane after clicking the Thicken/Offset option; the Work Plane just does not highlight. You mention thicken/offset thats a surface modelling tool. You need a work feature. Quote

JD Mather Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 You don't need that drop down. Click the Workplane tool. Click-hold and drag off of the existing plane. (always pick plane at edge, not middle) You will be prompted for offset distance. Quote

JD Mather Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Thanks a billion! Problem solved! I knew I would find a way to retire. You can write the check to J.D. Mather and send to ..... Quote
