Cubes CDS Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hi all, I'm a Sketchup newbie seeking guidance. Just started to draw a paperclip (nearest thing to hand on desk, I bet everyone has drawn a paperclip device ) Is it possible to extrude a circle along radi's ? Also, is it possible to attach sketchup files to this, It says invalid file when I try. Or am I having brain freeze:oops: Thanks Quote
CADken Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 yes, using the "follow-me" command... look here: http://cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22655 scroll down to where you see the follow-me command being utilized. basically draw the shape of the paperclip, this will be your "path"... now draw a profile of the paperclip (a circle in the middle of the path), select the follow-me tool and then select the face of the profile, then "follow" the path with your mouse. I can post better direction if needed. Attached the skp file. (in order to upload a sketchup file to the forum, compress it as a .zip file, or remain the file extension as ".dwg" and then who ever downloads it just has to rename the extension ".skp"... but zip is easier) Click on the "scene" tabs to see what I mean. paperclip.zipFetching info... Cubes CDS Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 Thanks CADken I tried to use the follow me tool without success. I've even re-scaled the part to x3 because the circle was too small. I must be doing something wrong. Not that it matters I'm drawing a clamp type paperclip, can't remember the name of them. Please see file. Cheers Paperclip.zipFetching info... Quote
Cubes CDS Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 Yureeka ! For some reason I had made the path into a component, so I exploded it and all is ok. I must admit this Sketchup is very impressive. Going to try the SU Podium Plugin next. Thanks again Quote
boofredlay Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Cubes, there is an alternative if you are just doing circles to follow a path. You can use the Pipe Along Path ruby script located here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?p=7547#p7547 Install it in your plugins folder and restart SketchUp. (C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Plugins) Draw your path then select it all. Then go to Plugins and choose Pipe Along Path. You will get a dialog box to enter values. Great little script. I use it quite often for pipe railings. Quote
Cubes CDS Posted October 31, 2008 Author Posted October 31, 2008 Brilliant, sounds useful. I can't seem to download the link, is it still there? Thanks boo. Quote
boofredlay Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Sorry for the late reply. I have attached it here. PipeAlongPath.zipFetching info... Quote
