Is there a way to permanently save dim and text styles in autocad without going to another drawing template and loading it or putting it in the default drawing template. is there a place add and to store the dimension and text to a dim dex file so it always opens up in autocad.

Sure, start utilizing the Tool Palettes. What you do is round up all your Dimensions and create a Block of them all. Save the DWG file somewhere in a location that you can always access, then Drag/Drop them into a new Tool Palette. Anytime you open a new drawing, just plop in the block and delete it, and all your DIM styles will carry over with it. Attached is an example of mine....

**EDIT** Here is some extra info on Tool Palettes in case you are new to them. They are highly versatile and can help in so many ways if you give them a chance.

You can always drag and drop the styles into any drawing you're working in via the Design Center too but working off a tool palette is probably a lot easier.

For a more automatic approach, I believe you could have acaddoc.lsp perform the suggestions above each time a drawing is opened.

A little bit harder you could do a lisp say pick from a dialouge what one you want and create it then in current drawing.
