girts as component of wall section?

Hi all,

I'm a longtime AutoCad user, new to Architecture. I'm trying to create a wall style that is 3" brick veneer, 1" airspace, 3" ins. panel, 10" horizontal girt, 3 5/8" stud wall and 5/8" drywall. Should I specify the girt as a component in the wall" It's not continuous, there's one at, say 6' o.c. vertically. Or should this 10" be an "airspace". Also don't quite get the "edge offset" spec, I'm just trial & error-ing my way thru it.
