Loque Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 So, is it possible to create one polyline that has combined dashed and continuous type of line in one polyline? Quote
Dadgad Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 You can apply whatever linetype you choose to a polyline. After creating a polyline you can alter the linetype in the PROPERTIES dialog box. If you type LTYPE in your commandline, it will open the linetype manager. If you click on LOAD, you will see the library of available linetypes in the program. Quote
Tiger Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 You can create your own linetypes (search for it, there are explanations here somewhere I know) but I think the trouble you would run into is how long is the continous part and how long is the dashed part? Are they always the same? Quote
Loque Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 So, I would create let's say 3 plines, and then I would like to edit one of them(let's say the middle one) to be dashed. (coz this line represent some kind of a road symbol) something like this. so, basically I want to edit just one segment of the line to be different line type but one line (when I press ctrl + 1 it would display the length of the line/pline) Quote
Tiger Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 And still keep the line a continous Polyline - gotcha. No way I have heard of to do this unfortunatly - I hope to be proven wrong though! Quote

eldon Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 So, is it possible to create one polyline that has combined dashed and continuous type of line in one polyline? It is possible with a bit of work, by using the fact that short lengths of dashed line are continuous, and disabling the linetype generation. The picture shows the (apparently) continuous lines are actually short lengths (shown by the grips) but it is all one polyline. Quote

Tiger Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Look at Eldons image - every blue square is a vertex on the polyline, when you draw the line, you have to click at every one of the blue spots to acheive your result. With all respect to Eldon, it doesn't look like a particular good solution though - scaleing in the Viewport for one thing will mess with the result to no end... Quote

Tiger Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Nothing is easy when you want to do something tricky deep. very deep. too deep on a monday. Quote
eldon Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 But if you made the short lengths short enough, it could probably handle being scaled in viewports Quote
Tiger Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 But if you made the short lengths short enough, it could probably handle being scaled in viewports [2 weeks later] boss: Oi! Can you make the whole polyline dashed? me: uh yeah but.. boss: what? You're always saying that you only have Polylines so you can change the linestyle at the drop of a coin, now do it! me: uh... eldon Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 [2 weeks later]boss: Oi! Can you make the whole polyline dashed? That's the easy part. You just enable the linetype generation. Quote
eldon Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Can u pls explain? If you are still in difficulty, post a drawing with one such line in it, and I will try and give step by step advice. Quote
