3smees23 Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Hi, I create schematics of lighting control systems for my job, the controllers on my schematic have multiple outputs which I need to modify so they're relevant to the job. At present I have all my blocks in a tool palette and just click and drop to add them to my schematic. How can I tailor the text of a block without exploding it? Is this even possible? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sam Quote
Tharwat Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Do you mean other ways than bedit command ? or double click on the block to open the block editor . Hope this helps Quote
3smees23 Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 Hi, Yeah, I don't want to use bedit and/or change the block itself. Are there any other ways? Cheers Quote
Dana W Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Merely editing an existing block would change EVERY block with the same name in the drawing at once. Once you have the block editor dialog open, you want to add an atribute to the block that would allow changing the text upon insertion. That way each occurance of the same block would be able to contain a different text value. Quote

Tharwat Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 replace the needed texts to be changed to attributes and later on when you insert the block it would ask you for every attributes value . Quote

Cheers Unless you can come up with a way of doing it using a diesel macro I can't think of a way that a person could edit a block without opening it. There is no magic button in LT that will accomplish the task. Can the text somehow be exported to Excel, edited, then imported back into the drawing? Quote
3smees23 Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 If I were to add an attribute in block editor, would it prompt me to change the text if I dragged it in from a palette...rather than inserting it as a block? I'm not sure if exporting to excel would be straight forward, the shematics could contain perhaps 30 blocks that need approx 10 lines of text changed each. Thanks for all your input Quote

Ian Lapper Posted March 19 Posted March 19 An option you have is, once the block is placed, use the 'find/replace' text option from the Annotation tab in the Ribbon. Set the 'Find Where' option to current space and use the 'Select Object' icon. When prompted to replace the text in the block, select the option 'This Block Only' Ian Quote
