Hi, I've been given a dwg file to work with but it's read only so I can't save my work! How can I solve this? Is it possible to convert the file so I can save it?

If you have write-access permissions to the directory where the file is stored... in Windows Explorer, Right Click the File, Select Properties, then make sure "Read only" is unchecked.

If you do not have write-access to the directory location, then consider using Save As to a location where you do.

There's a couple ways to get around that. One is to use the Windows explorer. Find the file, right click it and go down to properties. Uncheck the "read only" box and hit ok.

You'll have to have sufficient user privileges to do that. Another way is to simply do a "saveas" and name it something else. This will create an editable copy, leaving the original intact.

Thanks folks, I think I've cracked it by using Save as, it seems to be allowing me to save it now (it better 'cause I've been working on it for the past 2 hours haha)
