i need help again.... ugh. So I did install he correct font. I went back to my XP machine, pulled the font from there, and it's installing as "helvetica narrow" instead of "helvetica narrow bold" so Autocad is not finding it. It only sees "helvetica narrow" but all my other PCs in the office will be looking for "helvetica narrow bold" so I can't change it. now what?

You mean where you say this?

edit: wait... it works! I didn't install the correct TTF...

Yep, that might make a difference.

ok... instead of sniping out the problem... I just gave up on installing the "correct" font from the xp computer and installed ALL fonts from the XP computer. it works!

thanks guys.

new quick and easy problem. every time I turn on autocad, the workspace/display" tab/sidebar keeps appearing. I want that gone from my life. lol quick and easy method or do I have to make a new Autocad shortcut?

Ah, I see. LDT. You should be able to edit this in your CUI but I have no experience in LDT.
