jd254 Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I just built a new computer with windows 7 and installed autocad 2005. I'm trying to transfer all the settings over. I already exported the profile from the windows xp computer and changed the shortcut to load autocad with that profile. the problem is that the way autocad 2005 on my windows 7 pc is not showing some text the same way the autocad 2005 on my original windows xp computer. what other settings must I import? cadman6735 Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 What do you mean by not showing the text the same way? What is different about your text? Quote
jd254 Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 I'm simply basing this on the first thing I noticed when I open the same file in the two computer. I'm pretty sure there are others. on the XP pc, a word is correctly displayed, nice and bold. on the new Windows 7 pc, that same word is now skinny and wider. if I open the same dwg on the XP pc again, it is correctly displayed as how I made it. ReMark Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Are you using the same monitor to display the drawing? Are we talking about SHX fonts or TTF? Quote
SLW210 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Could you post some screen shots and/or the file? Quote

Are we talking about SHX fonts or TTF? it's a different monitor since it's being displayed on a difference computer as a comparison. I'm not sure what the differences are between SHX and TTF. I assume it's TTF. here are some screen shots. windows xp: the original windows 7: font slightly looks different Quote
tzframpton Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I bet it's a font issue. In the Style Manager see if the text font is missing for the appropriate font style. Quote

ReMark Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Looks like two different versions of the same font. In the top image the font looks to be bold. The bottom image is probably what the normal font looks like. Example: Bank Gothic Lt BT versus Bank Goth Md BT. The "Md" version in this case is the bolder of the two. You're familiar with the STYLE command? Quote
jd254 Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 just entered "style" into the command line intial impression is they both have the same settings. Quote
tzframpton Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Yes, they will have the exact same setting but see if the font is installed on the Windows 7 machine. Quote
jd254 Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 .shx or the font actually in windows? Quote
ReMark Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Looks like a TrueType font. Those can be found in your Windows font folder on drive "C". Quote

jd254 Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 in the dwg, I opened the style manager. The style I am using was named STYLE1. The font it was using is "helvetica-narrow-bold" I installed "helvetica-narrow-bold" into my new Win7 PC. I checked to make sure it was installed with the Font folder in Control Panel. I checked with character map also, but it says "Helvetica Narrow" reopening the style manager, the font "helvetica-narrow-bold" is still selected, but the preview still appears blank, and there was no change to autocad. ReMark Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 When you installed your font did you do it via the Install New Font method for Win7? Quote

I right clicked and clicked "install" then I tried to preview it, and install from there. I don't think there is a "install New Font" button for Windows 7 any other ideas?!!! :-( edit: wait... it works! I didn't install the correct TTF... the Character Map gave it away. I have "helvetica narrow" in Autocad... not "helvetica-narrow-bold" all i gotta do is find "helvetica-narrow-bold" so that it say "helvetica-narrow-bold" in the character map Quote
