BlackBox Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Maybe it's just the large size of my hands (+10" thumb to pinky LoL)... I actually hold the mouse (comfortably) with nothing but my finger tips. Admittedly, I prefer the larger (Cyborg?) mice though; I used the Logitech Performance Mouse MX for years, then recently switched to the G700 (slightly smaller mouse than the former, but adequate). resullins Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Wow... mine are barely 7.75. And I played piano for a long time... I consider myself as having a relatively large span for my hand size. Quote
BlackBox Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) Wow... mine are barely 7.75. And I played piano for a long time... I consider myself as having a relatively large span for my hand size. I'm very thankful for the size of my hands... I credit them with saving my a$$ a couple of times; specifically for being able to grab all of my parachute risers during AIRBORNE school... The saying "Blood on the Risers" got started for a reason. mine are exactly 9" [insert funny joke here] Edited November 15, 2011 by BlackBox Quote
Jon McElwain Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 [insert funny joke here] I'll resist. I went to the store the other day to look at mice and was frustrated that none of them fit my palm and fingers without scrunching my hand into a fetal ball. I went home that afternoon and grabbed my mouse and realized that I too run it with just my fingertips. My pinky drags around like an ancillary appendage. The heal of my hand drags around on the desk and rubs the edge of the mousepad - got a good callous there. Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Sorry, that should say: no more ports that cords will reach. My receiver currently is weeny and the only way a cord would reach it would be to run over the FRONT of my desk. I tried that once... it drove me insane. By "receiver" I meant the wireless receiver for the track ball. If you use all logitech appliances though, you can run up to six with one receiver. This one is RF, so it's actually a tiny circuit board built on a usb connector and dipped in epoxy. You can see it here: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/349/6126?pcid=6072&debug=0 You could run the mouse and the keyboard off one port that way.. Quote
resullins Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Yeah... that's what I have... which is why getting a new, wired one wouldn't work. Would take another port, and another port that the cord won't reach, at that. If I get a wireless one, I'm golden. Quote

RocketSurgeon Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I don't mind wireless; with exception to battery consumption. The one mouse I ordered, advertised 18 month battery life. I was hoping for 1/2 that. I've never gotten more than about 3 months out of one. Quote

Jack_O'neill Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I don't mind wireless; with exception to battery consumption. I've had this one a couple months, use it all day every day and still working on the same battery. It's a copper top, but I have some rechargeable lithium AA's that I will use when this one dies. I've never been a fan of the wireless ones. I don't like the extra weight. Another plus for trackballs, the extra weight doesn't matter. You don't move it around like a mouse. We wanted to watch some stuff the other night on hulu, so I dragged this computer into the living room and hooked it up to the tv. Used the wireless trackball to drive it from all the way across the room. Then I remembered my wii will do that too....oh well, I needed to clean the desk up anyway. Quote

Agreed; however, we're not exactly average users either, so you *should* expect less IMO. Just seems practical given that we work with the equipment (nearly?) all day, everyday. Too many times I've seen someone have sudden issues with their mouse and it was always a result of low battery life. The cord doesn't bother me. Nor I; it's just nice being able to pack up at the end of the night and throw the mouse in the front part of my laptop bag and go, without winding the cord or dealing with it tangling up in my headphones by the time I get where I need to be (I often work from other offices, or my home). If my equipment never left the office, frankly I wouldn't care as much. Quote

That reminds me of a funny story about one of the big wigs (BW) here... he called IT in when they were at our office one week (they usually work remotely) because he was having trouble with his mouse. BW: "My mouse isn't working right." IT: "Have you checked your mouse battery?" BW: "No, how do you do that?" Quote

Well hell... someone has to keep y'all entertained so you'll keep helping me with my CAD problems. I have a LOT of programming to do in the next 12 months. We're overhauling our engineering standards. Quote
