Exporting Tool Palettes

Recommended Posts

Posted

I created some tool palettes that have all the standard blocks for our company. I want to share these with all the other designers. The help file suggests opening the "Customize Palettes" dialog window, right clicking on the palette and clicking "Export". Sounds so simple.

When I right click on the tool palettes, the only options available are "Rename", "New Palette", and "Delete".

How can I share these new tool palettes? Thanks in advance for your help!

AutoCAD MEP 2012.

2012? Good, you have access to the Ribbon thus you can go to the Manage tab, Customization panel, and click on the Tool Palettes button. In the Customize window that appears onscreen right-click on your custom palette and choose the Export option.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I have already followed the steps to get to the customization dialog window. When at the customization window, I right click on the tool palettes, and export is not an option. Screen shot attached.

I must be living a charmed life because it works for me each and every time.

Could it be a "permissions" thing? You're working with a networked version right?

We have stand alone installs on each designer's computer... Is there something I can check to see if I have limited permissions? Please don't say ask IT, because they are useless.

Could it be and MEP thing?

Update:

I checked with the other designer using MEP 2012, he has the same issue. The Import and Export options are not available.

I check with a designer using MEP 2010. Same issue.

I also checked with a designer using Map 3D 2010. He does not have this issue. He has the option for Exporting.

Can anyone confirm that this is an MEP problem?

I don't believe it is a problem "per se". I believe this is intentional, on AutoDesk's part, primarily due to the use of something called the "Content Browser". Ring any bells? I believe there is a way around this however.

You could try this:

  1. Create a new Catalog in the Content Browser.
  2. Create a new Category inside the new Catalog.
  3. Populate this new Category with the desired Tool Palettes.
  4. Publish the catalog to a shared location on your network.

Thanks for the help. This is the best solution I could find. It's certainly not as easy as simply exporting tool palettes, but it works. Thanks!

I don't promise perfection.
