Hi i've got to grips quite well with mesh modelling but i cannot seem to be able to mitigate this shape, a hyperbolic paraboloid in 3D Cad (see attached image)... can anyone give me any guidance on this matter?

Thanks

3dpolyline

You could import your picture, but I don't know what good that would do.

Attach here what you have completed so far if you can't figure it out.

You are doing too much work - you only need the 4 boundary edges.

Create using 3Dpoly with C (for close) as your last point.

or

you could use Loft with Guide curves, but I think I would simply use a closed 3dpoly and Patch.

right click and select proper option that will allow you to select the 3Dpoly boundary)

this really isnt working... i must be doing something wrong

Do the cube wire frame.

start 3dpoly and click the boundary points (use C for close on last point)

Do a Patch (check right mouse button options for proper selection).

For something like this I’d recommend using the Loft methodology – though I think 2 lines is enough (see attached).

Patch is useful; though in this instance the resultant geometry is a trimmed surface. AutoCAD does not treat it as such, but the isolines suggest it – the Acis/Brep information confirms it.

So, even if the surface is within tolerance, the Patch will not have traits associated with the doubly ruled hyperbolic paraboloid, nor a regular (fully contained) UV Parametrization.
