Patrick Hughes Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Patrick,Very nice illustration, makes things easy. rkent Thanks rkent, I contemplated putting a copyright mark on it. Throughout my career I had never heard of that visualization technique until just a few years ago. It was taught to a colleague by his high school drafting teacher. Quote
JD Mather Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I had heard this description (in words) years ago and it didn't make sense to me (and because I do virtually all work in 3rd angle and can figure out 1st angle when needed) I ignored trying to figure it out. Finally took a good look at your graphic - and it is great. I'm thinking of doing a animated version to use to explain to my students. Quote
Patrick Hughes Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Thanks JD, I'm glad you liked it. Let us know when you've got the animation done. I think it would make for a good instructional aid. Quote
Manila Wolf Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 To explain the difference between 1st and 3rd angle projection to trainees in our office I show them the attached drawing. Whether it's a view shown on the right or left has no bearing on wheter it's 1st or 3rd angle projection. With regard to preference I think it's what you get used to. I am happy to work with either as essentially the views are exactly the same, just placed in a different part of the drawing. If asked to choose, my own preference is for 1st angle. If I draw a building elevation it makes sense to me to draw the plan below the elevation. 1st 3rd Angle.dwg Quote
