Here is a method to get a proper isometric view of a polygon using a simple example.

 

1 - Draw a polygon (regular or irregular - the more sides, the longer this method will take)

 

2 - Rotate by -45 degrees and get vertical dimensions to each vertex

 

3 - Multiply each dimension by the factor : 0.57735 and measure up from a baseline

Or convert all the shape to block and alter the Y scale to suit. It should save a few steps/calculations
