stenews Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Hi guys, I need to measure how many square metres are each individually steps. I tried to use the area command but I can't get out whit this. Anyone of you have a better idea? Thanks, Stefano. steps.dwg Quote
Tyke Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 The steps in your drawing are a single 3D volume body. If you copy this to the side and explode it, it becomes a collection of regions, you can then click on a region and from the properties window you can see its area. Each tread is 0.28908m² and the landing is 1.13058m².You might have to delete on of the smaller side regions to get at the tread. Quote
stenews Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 Hi Tyke and fist off thanks for your reply. Unfortunately right now that I'm replying to your message I'm sitting far away from my PC. Anyway, when you say me to explode a single steps, do you mean that I need to use the explode command or what else? In case could you attach me a modified dwg file that show how to proceed. Thanks' a lot for your help Stefano Quote
Tyke Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 I have attached a copy of your drawing and you can see that I copied the stairs and a riser over to the right. Then I used the _EXPLODE command on the copied objects and got a collection of regions. If you click on a region you can see its area in the properties box. steps1.dwg Quote
stenews Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 I see...now thanks a lot for your help! I appreciate that Let me ask you just one more question: I can see that you are use to work with Civil 3d 2012. why? has it something better with respect to autocad regular version? Quote
Tyke Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Don' mention it, only too glad to help. Civil 3D contains a lot of functionality for surveying and civil engineering which I need for my job. Its known as an AutoCAD vertical, there many more such as MAP, MEP, Revit all of which deal with specific disciplines.
