is there a way to change the height of the text in the *.idw files?

Posted

What standard are you using? It should already be the correct height per ANSI standard.

In any case, you can change it in the Manage>Styles Editor.

i opened the style and standards editor and it says "read only" next to it so when i change the height it doesn't keep

Let me check on that.

Are you working in a multi-user environment of a central server?

You are using Projects (*.ipj) right? You should be.

Right click here and set Read/Write.

Thanks JD

I got it working, it was the projects file. I didn't know I had to set that up. I am a brand new user with no training and very little time to look at tutorials. besides I am not using Inventor every day. I am a 20+ year user of Autocad (self taught). The reason we have Inventor is the clients we work with are sending us files from Inventor or STEP or any other 3D program and we need to be able to use the files. We are a steel fabrication company and do alot of sheet metal. So I am learning this so we can take their files and create flatten parts to send to our cnc machines. I also want to us Inventor to create our own files then flatten and send. I am trying to convince my boss to get me some sort of training on the basics.

I'm sure I am missing alot more things I have to know before I can truely use Inventor to its fullest.

Thanks for all your help

AutoCAD 2012 can now import many file types including STEP, but you will need the Inventor for sheet metal flat patterns.

I would start moving most everything over to Inventor, it will take some frustration the first few months, but then you will never want to go back to AutoCAD.
