tennis4you Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I notice that sometimes when I am moving an object I can OSnap to the edge of something and then start moving away from what I snapped too. When moving that dotted green line shows up and I can type the distance I want to move it. Sometimes that works and sometimes it just slams the moving object right to what I snapped too. Any way I can always make sure when moving away from a snap (without hitting enter) I can type a distance from that snap and then hit enter to apply the move. Wow, did that make sense? Quote
tennis4you Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 I was afraid of that, sorry yo. Is there a way to move a specific distance off of an OSnap? For instance, I move an object to a point I snap to, but I really want the object I am moving 48" to the right from the snap. Quote
tzframpton Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Now I'm really confused. Your first post you say that you type the distance you want the object to move to from the snap point. Your second post, you're asking how to move an object a certain distance from the snap point. To answer your 2nd post, yes: while Object Tracking is on, and OSnaps are turned on, you can snap to a object snap node and type the distance on the keyboard in the direction of your choice. The tracking angle is set via the Polar Tracking parameters. To answer your 1st post about it slamming back to the original snap point, this can only happen if you use the mouse to pick the desired position. If you type in the distance using the keyboard the object should never snap back. Quote
tennis4you Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 I spent too much time in the sun playing tennis today, I am fried. Sorry about that. You answered my question and I see it is working now. Second post is what I needed, your help will make my life much easier!!! Boom,! Thanks!!! Quote
kencaz Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Yes you can. select the object you want to move, then select the base point. Using object snap tracking you can specify 48" from the current snap point without actually selecting it as such: KC Quote
