DANIEL Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 i was certified in 199..... geez, thanks for making me feel old i was certified in the 90's I'm not sure how they conduct this any more but i took mine at an autodesk school in phoenix, I'm sure theres a local college or rep that can help you locate a certification class, I don't recall it being that difficult. detailershub Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 Daniel, has it been of any reference to your career? Quote
BlackBox Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I'm also interested in obtaining my Civil 3D 2011 certification, and recently posed a related question here: ACAD / MS Certifications | Real worth ? You may find some of the responses I received helpful. Quote

Thanks in advance You can find information here. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?id=14238652&siteID=123112 They have comprehensive study guides available for sale, but they are expensive. There are two tests, the Associate and the Professional. The Associate is multiple guess/trivia test, the Professional is a hands on test actually using the program to manipulate objects on a presetup drawing, and reporting distances after moving objects, etc. I don't remember any questions on 3D, lisp, or any of the newer commands. I took the tests for 2010 (and passed) but I don't remember any questions about the new commands for that release, which seemed odd to me. Quote

I don't think its really nessicary unless your going to need it in order to instruct classes or are required for some sort of project, I had already been employed using CAD when I did it as a requirement for an Allied signal project so as far as how it has helped my career I would have to say that it hasnt at all. I have interviewed several people who listed such qualification on there resume and in every case they were either insufficient to get the job to begin with or a sad dissapointment after I did hire them. As a result i take little stock in such snippets on a resume. I will say this, it may help you acquire a job but it will most likely be up to your skills to keep it. I do wish some of the engineers i work with would take this however. lol Quote

That's the Mechanical industry for you. LoL (^^ Just kidding, of course ^^) As a result i take little stock in such snippets on a resume. LoL(^^ Just kidding, of course ^^) Kidding or not, that's true lol seriously though, I don't know what to make of the skill level that crosses my desk some times but you don't want to know what I see from civil departments that I have to coordinate with ... it's far worse in all honesty lol and I don't really know why as its so much simplier to get right in my opinion lol. BIGAL Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 We had a school student work for us 3rd yr degree 20yrs old for 6 weeks I would offer her a job tomorrow but still at school did a better job than some of the other staff at about double pay. We poached someone from another department so could not talk to them brilliant during interview turned out total disaster, years of cad experience etc runs at about 3x every body elses time. So bottom line a certificate in Autocad means at least you know what Autocad is. Remember once 20+ years ago Autodesk trade show had a drafting competition winner was about 1/4 of 2nd place time no formal training. Quote
