monwilj Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 I have a student version of the auto cad architecture 2007. Is there any way to get a commercial version upgrade for that year or newer rather than having to pay the full price for a complete new version. And is there anyplace you can find a complete new commercial version of autocad for a lesser price than the msrp? Thanks! Quote
Organic Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 In short, No & No You can't 'upgrade' from a Student version to a commercial version (without buying the commercial version in full) as far as I am aware. You also won't find many resellers selling AutoCad cheaper than the rrp. Quote
ReMark Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Buy new. If you can't afford it then look at one of the AutoCAD clones. Some are strictly 2D while others have both 2D and 3D capability. You'll find that no matter what the pricing on these CAD programs will be significantly lower. BTW....most claim to both read and write to the DWG file format. My advice is if you go this route do a 30-day trial and thoroughly test the software to make sure it meets your needs. Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 You might check around with dealers in your area to see if they still have a few copies of an older version. You might be able to get it at a somewhat reduced price, but it's still gonna be steep. I doubt if you'll find any that old, that is 5 releases ago. Might find 2010 on a few shelves. Won't hurt to call and ask, worst they can do is say no. Quote
