Intorp%20Sample.JPGRemark,

I just get image from Car5858 post. it look different than me .

The grid and spot elevations look about the same to me. What looks different to you?

Remark,

I need your help to understand in civil drafting plate-1. on page 16 Point 4 and point 5 ask me to find delta angle and length. can you guide me how to find delta ?

Thank you

Posted

If you have constructed the geometry you can use AutoCAD to obtain the delta angle and length of arc.

Remark,

Please help me for plate-3 and plate-4 .

How i need to start this drawing ? I need to make copy of plate-2 to start plate-3.

That's good. We are located in the same time zone. For a moment there I was afraid you were somewhere on the other side of the world from me.

OK...I'm back. I'll have to take a look at the instructions to refresh my memory. Hold on.

Plate 3 - Driveway Profile and Section "A".

The driveway profile covers the length of the driveway from station 0+00 in the cul-de-sac at Ocean Avenue to the end of the driveway at station 3+78.90. The profile is taken down the centerline of the driveway.

The section passes through the driveway in a south-to-north direction and cuts through the proposed contours.

Plate 4 - Section "B" Profile.

The section passes through the area where the house will be built in a south-to-north direction and cuts through the proposed contours.

Stationing

Stationing is a way of designating distances from a known starting point. It usually starts at 0+00 and proceeds in 100 foot increments along a centerline. Thus the first 100 foot station from the beginning gets the designation of 1+00. The next 100 foot station is designated 2+00 and so on. The start (PC) and end (PT) of a curve is also stationed. In this project those points are designated 0+50 and 1+93.87 respectively. Station 3+78.90 (378.90' from the beginning) represents the last station on the driveway centerline.

Note that your instructions state that the student will show the station in 50 foot increments so you will have to show stations 0+50, 1+00, 1+50, 2+00, 2+50, 3+00 and 3+50 plus stations 0+00, 1+93.87 and 3+78.90 as well.

Comments

I have a real problem with the fact that Penn-Foster devotes all of 1 1/4 pages to talking about what is required for the driveway profile and the two sections but does not specifically tell the student how to go about plotting the elevations. Am I to assume that you received further instructions or guidance by way of an email or additional/supplement material like an example of some sort?

In the profile of the driveway the student plots points on a grid that has different vertical and horizontal scales. Every point at which the centerline of the driveway crosses a contour a point is placed on the grid. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the new driveway is at a constant elevation of 180. Is that right? The student will also have to plot the elevations where the centerline of the proposed driveway crosses over an existing contour. Since the proposed driveway, for the most part, is higher than the existing ground the area will have to be filled in. This "fill" area will have to be hatched so it stands out.

If you have not received any additional information to go with the instructions for this project I would send an email (or call) and request that one of the instructors further explain how to go about creating the required plates. Given that you paid good money for this course there is no reason why they shouldn't assist you. Let us know what happens too. Thanks.

Looks like you are on the right track.

Did you receive as part of your course materials any other handouts explaining what is required here or how it should look?

Have you, like I asked, contacted P-F regarding the instructions for Plates 3 and 4?

Posted

Remark,

Actully i got all my course material but it is not good enough to understand project so I asked to P-F for help for plate-3 and plate-4. They expain me about how to finish this drawing but still i have some questions so I am reading my text book to find answer.

Thank you very much for your help

Did they explain this in an email to you or over the phone?

Posted

Would you be willing to share that email with me? I ask because so many students come here with the exact same questions as you and it makes me wonder why the information is not included as part of the PDF for the project. Why does a student have to go back and request help from someone at P-F to finally get what they should have had in the first place?

If you want you can contact me by PM (private message) to continue this conversation.

Thanks.
