QaTaR Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 hi Guyz I'm having the " Arbor Press " as a project I did everything except the 4 screws that we place in the Cover Plate i don't know how they look like but i got a description of it that i cant understand "Cover Plate Screw ... (8-32 UNC x .50 cap screw)" I'm using Autocad 2008 & i have to draw it in 2D Can any one help me with it please ? Quote
SLW210 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 That would be The Unified Thread Standard as used in the United States. #8 = major diameter of the screw, -32 = 32 threads per inch, x .50 is .50 (1/2) inch long. Quote
QaTaR Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 thanks for all that info but what's the width and hight of the head of the screw ? How does it look like ? I'm good in drawing parts that i can see, but parts with just description is hard to get. can you help me in that please ? Quote
SLW210 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Just google Web/Image 8-32 x 1/2" UNC. If I have time I will come back and post the necessary dimensions. Quote
SLW210 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Maybe this will get you going. Head Height is .11" Quote
QaTaR Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 is this the exact one i want ? and whats the width of the head ? Quote
SLW210 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 All of the dimensions are there. the dimensions are in INCHES. Quote
JD Mather Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 is this the exact one i want ?? I don't think so - that is a hex head or machine screw. I think you want a SHCS socket head cap screw. What book are you using? pg # figure # Is this the arbor press you are doing? Quote
SLW210 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Thanks JD Mather! Let me know if you need a socket head cap screw or hex head cap screw. I can do the socket head also. I have that one also. Quote
QaTaR Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 yes that's the exact project I'm doing the part that I'm looking for is #14 its a " 8-32 UNC x .50 cap screw HEX SOC " If you can attach it as .DWG Please Quote
SLW210 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I am not going to do your assignment. What purpose would that serve? You have more than enough information to draw the Socket Head Cap Screw. " 8-32 UNC x .50 cap screw HEX SOC " That would have been nice to know from the start. Quote
JD Mather Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 yes that's the exact project I'm doing the part that I'm looking for is #14 its a " 8-32 UNC x .50 cap screw HEX SOC " If you can attach it as .DWG Please You still haven't answered what book you are using. Most books have a table in the end of the book with all of the dimensions. They can also be found in the Machinerys' Handbook. And the charts can be found all over the internet. (the image I posted was done by a first year college student) Of course - you will have to draw it yourself. Fasteners is usually a topic covered in a beginning CAD class. Quote
QaTaR Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 its not a book its a course we have to do in our first year and thats the project of it and yes i looked at the internet for it, but couldn't draw the screw because i didn't know how to read the description i tried my best and this is what i got Quote
JD Mather Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Don't label as 32 Thread - change the label to 8-32 UNC x .5 and remove the .164 and .5 as well. The ANSI standard is to suppress leading zeros on dimensions less than 1 and very very little is manufactured to 4 decimal places. Even though AutoCAD dimensions to 4 decimal places by default - change that in your template. Only bearings and other close tolerance (read expensive) dimensions are done to 4 decimal places. Quote
