Cad Monkey 2 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 So I tried out the dynamic input for a while (commands at the cursor instead of the command line), but ditched it because it totally screwed up my normal way of entering coordinates etc. - it took me a while to figure out that it was just dynamic input messing things up. For example: I'm used to drawing a rectangle by starting the command, picking a point and then entering: @ 12, 12 enter or whatever size. Dynamic input didn't seem to want me to work this way and has a drop down menu at the cursor that walks you through it, and probably makes more sense to AutoCAD newbies, but I think is frustratingly slow and way less efficient. I also had problems with entering angles etc. with dynamic input. I'm so used to the command line that I was looking there instead of the cursor most of the time anyway. I think the command line gives more/better information and feedback too and I would rather just look in one place instead of two, so I'm sticking with the command line. Quote
dbroada Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I love it. To draw your rectangle, click your point and type 12,12 and there you are. I prefer the extra screen space and if I need any more information F2 still works and you only need to keep your eye on the cursor. I don't have the drop down (usually) but maybe that is an "improvement" implemented on 2011 Quote
ccowgill Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 you can modify that setting by changing the DYNPICOORDS system variable to 1 Quote
Cad Monkey 2 Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 My DYNPICOORDS was set to and I think that may be what was really screwing me up, because if I simply entered 12,12 it gave me my second point off of the origin and it didn't seem to want me to use "@" with dynamic input. When I set it to it gave me what I'm used to without using "@" - just 12,12 which is easier. I'll try it this way for a while. I was having an issue with angles (distance and bearing too) so I'll have to see how that works with the setting. Quote
