ready2goriding Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Finally up grading to a more current version! I am wondering if I should get rid of my current AutoCAD 2004 in order to start with a "clean slate?" My 04 version has several issues that I wouldn't want to show up in the new version. Any ideas, or am I worrying about nothing? Thanks, doug Quote
ReMark Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Technically you can keep AC 2004 on your computer up to 30 days before having to remove it unless you are on Subscription. When prompted during the AC 2011 installation to "migrate" any settings, etc. from a previous version (2004) answer "No". I hope your computer meets all the minimum requirements as outlined by AutoDesk for running 2011. Does it? Quote
ready2goriding Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 Will do, ReMark- thank you! The computer has just been rebuilt by our IT guy, so it should be ready to go! I can't wait to get "current!" Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I'd recommend keeping it till you are completely up and running. That way if you find you can't quite remember what you did to customize this or that, you can go look. Some of the things you've changed in 04 may have to be done differently in 11, but at least you'll have a reference for what it used to do. You are making a huge jump there, so hang on to your hat. You are about to enter a brave new world. Quote
ReMark Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Brave new world? No, more like the Twighlight Zone. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Quote

Jack_O'neill Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Brave new world? No, more like the Twighlight Zone. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Straight out of the box, going from 04 to 11, you'll look at the screen, cautiously move the crosshairs, then stare in wonder and disbelief at the stuff at the top of your screen. There'll be all sorts of goodies and gadgets you've never seen. Some of them will have familiar sounding names, others you'll think just landed from Mars. Then the thought will cross your mind "did they send the right software? This ain't what I ordered" but, yes...it is. Quote
