Hi there,

My goal:

To improve the visibility of my linetypes in modelspace.

Current approach:

In my work I use several linetypes (like ----A12---- ----A12----) wich were created in a *.lin file of my own. Nothing special and it is working good except the visibility in modelspace. WHen plotting a layout however, the lintypes are plotted the same size in each viewport, no matter the viewportscale. This is what I need and don't want to change.

My current settings:

- LTSCALE is always 1

- PSLTSCALE is always 1

- CELTSCALE is always 1

The problem:

When drawing in modelspace I cannot see the linetype unless I zoom in all the way to 1:1 if you get what I mean. When I set LTSCALE to 50 (scalefactor mostly used) the linetypes get visible in modelspace as I want them. But now the lines in the viewports are all messed up.

So I keep on working as I do, all variables set to 1, but I can imagine there must be a better way. Too bad I cannot find the way to do so, maybe one of you can bring me some clarity?

Thanks in advance!

Kind regard,

MarcoW.

What is the setting for MSLTSCALE? Sounds like it should be 1 also.

Yes that is set to as well however I believe this is of no influence to the linetypescaling... A quick test shows me that it is indeed of no influence.

What is TILEMODE? 0= Paperspace and 1= Modelspace

Never mind. I finally figured out your question.

Maybe you could give some screen shots? Have you checked your .lin file?

TILEMODE =

This is wether "I am in modelspace or not" am I correct?

Yes. Read my edited post.

You say the plot is correct?

The LTScale should never be anything but 1.

Your modelspace 'views' should be based on DIMSCALE (drawing scale) or CANNOSCALE (drawing scale for annotative usage).

Hi all, sorry for the delay...

Yes the plot is okay, the viewports / layouts are all fine. Just like they should be.

It is only the problem that when working in modelspace the linetypes are kinda invisible due to the LTSCALE of 1.

If that would be 50 it would look in modelspace like it does now in paperspace. However setting it other then 1 gives bad result in paperspace.

Alan, when I create a viewport, I enter the viewport and give this command: zoom 1/50xp then exit by command "PS".

So I think that is also as it should be.

I know what you are saying although know no way of having individual line types display at different linetype scales in model space/multiple viewports. I usually get the scale correct for the viewport and just live with it not looking fine in Model space as the paperspace viewports is what is ultimately printed. Then when the same line has to be displayed in multipel viewports at different scales, it becomes a problem and sometimes I will create a 'copy' of the line on another layer to set to the correct display line type scale so it displays correctly in the new viewport (while not displaying the line at the different scale on the other layer obviously).

Try setting your annotation scale in mobelspace - this will set your modelspace to mimic its settings in a viewport of that scale. It should give you a decent view for editting without affecting your plotted output.

(It might be worth you looking up annotation scale separately, but briefly it's a system designed to allow one to vary the size of text, blocks, and hatching in different viewports in much the same way as the older PSLTScale give s this functionality to linetypes)

Will annotation scale 'scale' the linetype though, i.e. say --- W --- W --- W ---, will that in effect be scaled?

What about when there are multiple views (viewports) of the same objects at differing scales?

I don't know - all I can suggest is have a play and see how it goes.

Each annotation scale would mimic a single viewport scale. What I'm suggesting is it may have the same effect as temporarily setting your LTScale to 50, without having to remember to set it back.

Like I said, have a play, see if it does what you want it to.

Annotation scale only affects things like Mtext, dims and Hatching it shouldn't affect linetypes, well it doesn't in LT.

I've attached the bit from my new features workshop (in the help dropdown menu if you want to refresh your memories :) )

My linetypes work OK with LTS set to the appropriate scale and MSLTSCALE set to 0.
