Calibos Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Recently came across a skill builder on the AU site and was recently puzzled by a statement on spline handles. Place a dimension on each handle with a value of 1. A linear handle dimension is unitless and indicates the distance the spline is tangent to the handle. If a linear spline handle is unitless! why dimension it to a value? and what exactly is the value, what does it stand for? If you understand me right , or am i missing something i know when you make the value bigger than 1 , to say 3 it stretches the handle and makes the tangents much larger. Quote
Steve_wright Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I remember this skill builder and don't understand the value part..( it says it's unit less)..... but it indicates the distance the spline is tangent to the handle....does this mean it's actually 1" does anyone know why you have to put 1 in the value and is it 1" or just a number...lol confuuuuussseeedddd...lol Steve Quote
JD Mather Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Think of the value as a weight, or influence. The greater the number the more weight or influence (flatter) the handle makes the curve at that node. The amount of influence it takes to flatten a sharp curve is different than the amount to influence an already flatter curve. Quote
Steve_wright Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Thank You very much JD!! beautifully and clearly explained !! Quote
