irneb Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 The OP is mixing imperial and metric units in the same drawing? No AFAICT he's working in metric mm throughout. It's just that his DWG was probably originally started from the ACAD.DWT file (which I see happening quite often) - thus the INSUNITS=1 instead of 4 (i.e. Inches instead of mm). It doesn't give trouble unless you start using that file inside others where they were started from ACADISO.DWT. I'd also say it's a bit worrisome if your DWG mixes Inches and mm in one file. I'd also try to make sure that the PS at least matches the units class of the MS (i.e. Imperial-to-Imperial and Metric-to-Metric), otherwise your VP's scale factors are going to be extremely strange. tails Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 The OP is mixing imperial and metric units in the same drawing? I made the template from the ACADISO.dwt file which I believe is metric. Apologies for being a newbie, but under file where I would normally find the plotter, I don't have that option just print. Which brings up far fewer options than irneb's screen grab. Is there a way around this as I can't "plot the window area"!! I'll have a look myself as well, perhaps I need to add the plotter/printer again. Quote
ReMark Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Try typing the word Plot at the command line and pressing Enter. Does the Plot dialog window appear? Quote
SLW210 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 This was done on a mac if that's important. Hi again, Thanks for the help I feel as though I have learnt something. Unfortunately I appear to have got to a point, if you see my attached .dwg and look at layout A2 which I believe is an A2 sized plot. I have scaled it at 1:100 not the 1:500 in the title block, now we don't have an A2 printer but just from my knowledge from past drawings, I feel that is scaling incorrectly. Can anyone confirm it is wrong? If it is wrong where I have gone wrong? Thanks for all the help, it's much appreciated. You are using the wrong scale to display the object correctly. You have a Display Area of 472mm x 400mm, you are try to display 6000 x 2400 plus room for dimensions, etc. Divide 6000/472 = 12.7, Divide 2400/400 = 6. You use the higher number add a little for the dims, etc and closest scale in your list is 1:16. Quote
tails Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Does the Plot dialog window appear? No it brings up the print window, from a quick google this is a mac specific thing. You are using the wrong scale to display the object correctly. I think this is the problem, I'm so used to using 3 specific scales I didn't even think! How bloody dumb am I!! I hope this resolves all my scaling problems!! I owe a few of you a beer! Quote

tails Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 A burden you'll just have to learn to live with I guess for making a wrong choice. That's life. This is work for you, the boss "heard" mac's are good for design, so that's what he bought. Everyone else is on PC's creating no end of problems! Mac's are great for internet, music, photos the bundled software is good, I have one at home! For design there are still many many programs not available on OSX, which is why I also have a PC tower Thanks again for all the help! Quote
ReMark Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Your boss should run the business but leave the CAD related decisions to the professionals next time. He would have fewer problems and save some money to boot. Quote
SLW210 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Just tell your boss that you heard CAD jockeys made over $250,000 a year and the ones that know MAC doesn't do CAD, make over $1,000,000 and that bosses that make bad purchasing decisions look for employment. Quote
