marc512 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Hi there, i am currently trying to make a 3d scale model of my local kart track in autodesk autocad 2011. Iv ran into a few problems. I got help from a friend who used google earth as a layout which he imported into autocad and made it 3d and sent it to me. The problem with that is, google earth is out of date and the track has drastically changed since. I can add corners but i cant seem to edit the old ones. I use the spline and sweep method but i dont think my friend did it that way and to which extent i cant edit it. Its not a mesh i can tell you that, i think it was probably drawn in 2d and extruded. I cant be to sure. If you can help in some way to edit this kind of 3d model id appreciate it. Now that im thinking of starting again but i need abit of help. I have a picture of a track layout and i wish to import it to autocad 2011 and have it flat so i can draw a spline around it. But being me i need this to be to perfect scale. The track is 7.5m wide. Is there anyway i can import the image and scale the image of the track so the track is 7.5m on my screen? so when i place a spline around the center and make a 7.5m line and sweep it along the spline it will be to scale. Iv seen this done before but i dont even know how to import a picture and do what iv just said. Can anyone give me a 2-3 minute tutorial? Im very sorry, but im bad at explaining things. http://www.eskc.net/?page_id=228 This is what iv done on 3ds max. As you can see it hasn't turned out very good. Thanks Marc Quote
daft vader Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Import your raster file then use this tut to scale correctly assuming you have a known distence it works fine ok http://www.cadtutor.net/tutorials/autocad/scaling-images.php Edited January 9, 2011 by daft vader Quote
kencaz Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Import your image into AutoCad... Draw a vertical line 7.5mm tall, ( I used 6' for my ref line). select the image and manually scale until you have your track width... Then you can start tracing out your track with line, splines, or polylines. Then you can use 'press-pull' to extrude the track. If 'press-pull' can't find a boundary then use the "Hatch" command and it will point out the line breaks for you. Add you tires and other objects and later using the image for reference only. Good Luck KC Quote
