Hello! I am a bit frustrated at a change that has been made and can't find a system variable to fix it! The problem is (as best as I can define it):

I have 2 lines that are not perpendicular to each other, I select one, enabling the grips. I grab one of the grips of the line, and want to stretch that point to a point that is perpendicular from the point of origin (as all previous versions have done!). The result that I am getting now is that it makes the line that I am minipulating perpendicular to the unselected line from the opposet endpoint than the one selected.

In order to fix this I now have to draw a third line from the endpoint of the "selected" line that I want to stretch, to a point that is perpendicular to the "unselected" line, then select the line, grab the grip and stretch it to the newly created intersection.

I hope that I have not confused anyone!

Thanks for any help!

Im afraid i dont understand your problem. I have 2011 and it works for me. Can you upload some pictures to help better visualize?

Yep, they changed the basepoint location when grip editing lines from the hot grip to the end opposite the hot grip. Personally, this behavior suites me better, but you're not alone in disliking this change. Polylines still use the selected hot grip for the basepoint .... weird, huh?

That is exactly what I am talking about - so - there is no setting that can be changed to set it to leave the base point at the hot grip?

it is something different than the base point - I just tried changing base points and get the same result, even went back into 2008 and changed the base point to the opposite end from the hot grip and got an entirely different result, I hope that they will give us an option to change that!

With Otrack on and running osnaps for appintersection and endpoint it works as you would like.

those work like before any way, the only one I am having problems with is the perpendicular stretch, this doesn't really show up until you are trying to streatch perpendicular to a line that is at an angle v/s vertical or horizontal, in which case the perpendicular point is not the same as the appearant intersection. the work around right now is to draw a line from the hot grip to a point perpendicular to the "unselected" line, then stretch the line from the hot grip to the intersection or end point of the new "construction" line, then delete the "construction" line.

just agrevating going through these steps to get done what used to be really simple - and I have to do this all the time when using existing drawings and moding them to work with new conditions.

From my perspective, I can't see the use of how it works now, of course, I see the comment made about liking the way it works now - I just don't see the logic in what it is doing now.

I do appreciate all of the input, and welcome more, I take what you guys suggest and test them out and make sure it is or is not doing what I need it to do before I make a comment back on here. I hope for this to be productive!

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't think you can change this behavior in 2011. A faster alternative to drawing a construction line may be to use STRETCH with a crossing window over the endpoint you want to move, then AutoCAD2011 will track PERPENDICULAR to the point you select.

Thank you! It is so funny how you can get used to doing something a certain way and when something changes, you are so stuck in those ways that you don't look at other alternatives! I also use the stretch command for other things, I am just so hard-headed and want to make everything work the way I want it to that I forget to go back to the basics. Man I love forums! Being able to get a different perspective is so invaluable!

Thanks Greatly! you have made an idiot very happy!

The Otrack and osnap settings will work, did you even bother trying? Works fine here.

Unless I'm mistaken, Perp Otrack only tracks relative to the source object, whereas Matt wants to snap perpendicular to another object.Perp Osnap.jpg
