Surveyor1951 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I want to draw a wall using 2x4's on 16" centers, ie. a 10' wall, 8' high. What would be the best way of doing this? Any help on this would be much apprieciated. Quote
ReMark Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Draw one 2x4 of the required length. Use the Array command to reproduce the remainder of the 2x4s. Quote
Dana W Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Are you asking for AutoCAD procedures or framing layout procedures? Quote
ReMark Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Are you asking for AutoCAD procedures or framing layout procedures? The OP does state: "I want to draw a wall..." so my guess is he hasn't started the actual framing. Quote
ReMark Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I have a question Surveyor: Are you drawing this is 2D or 3D? Quote
BIGAL Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Like Dana W a house wall is normally just shown from a plan view as two lines or 4 lines the builder knows he has to put studs at 450mm 16" centres or are you doing an actual timber wall panel drawing ? A bit more info please there are plan wall (multiline) lisp routines available on the forum here. Quote
Dana W Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 The OP does state: "I want to draw a wall..." so my guess is he hasn't started the actual framing. Depends on what sort of wall drawing Surveyor is doing. using 2x4's on 16" centers, ie. a 10' wall, 8' high And the title of the thread asks "What's the best way to do 2x4s layout?" In plan the wall will just be two parallel lines, but if for some reason Surveyor needs to show stud placement in elevation detail, there's all sorts of stuff to account for. For instance - The end/corner of a wall IS the first 16" o.c. point and the face of the first stud is 15 1/4" from the corner. Get that wrong and all the 4x8 sheathing ends will be flapping in the air. Don't 'array' studs until the corner and the first stud is placed. Having said all that, Surveyor, if you are just doing floor plans, A professional framing contractor doesn't need a drawing of where the studs are. He/she will put them where they belong. We'll discuss whether the walls should be drawn @ rough or finished thickness:? or what effect the joist overlap at the center bearing beam in the floor has on stud placement in the rear wall of the house if you need to know. Thirty years ago, my wife's best girlfriend told her before introducing us, that I would explain why speed has an effect on time and what the doplar effect was, if I was asked "What time is it?" Quote

ReMark Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Well if Surveyor is doing his own framing too I hope he gets the corners right. Say...does anybody know what time it is? Does anybody really care? Just asking. Quote

ReMark Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 25 or 6 till 4 I just love that song! I'm going to rev up that CD first thing on my ride home this afternoon. LOL Quote
rkent Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Yeah, me too. I searched on Google and all reports say that the 25 or 6 means 25 or 26 minutes till 4. But I heard an interview with one of the band members years ago and he said that he was looking at a bank time and temp display and it was 25 degrees outside and it was 6 minutes till 4, it alternated between the temp and the time, hence the 25 OR 6 till 4. Dana W Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 When y'all are done, would y'all mind explainin' why somebody left a cake out in the rain? Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 When y'all are done, would y'all mind explainin' why somebody left a cake out in the rain? I dunno either, but with the likes of Diana Ross, Sammy Davis Jr, and Frank Sinatra crooning about it, someone should have figured it out by now. Waylon Jennings even got a grammy for it and we still don't know why the cake got left out. Quote
