I am using AutoCAD 2007 with Windows XP in Sony Laptop.

When I start AutoCAD, it shows the 3D view with gray background and xyz ucs in color.

I am used to 2D view with black background. However I don't know how to change and make this permanent, so that every time I open AutoCAD it opens the 2D black and white view.

I have tried view/3D views/Plan View, but it doesn't help

You don't mention a grid so I'd have to assume AutoCAD opens with the acad3d.dwt (template). If there was an isometric grid then it would be opening with the acadiso3D.dwt.

It sounds like you want AutoCAD to open with the acad.dwt template.

One option is to open a new drawing and when the Select Template dialog box comes up click on acad.dwt and then on the Open button. Now the next time you open a new file AutoCAD will default to the last dwt you used.

I believe the choice of template can also be influenced by the QNew command but I'd have to verify that since its been a while and I'm a little rusty on the subject.

Thanks. Using the open New command and selecting acad.dwt, is the same as you mentioned and it is what I want.

But starting the CAD again didn't bring it and returned to 3D again.

Am I doing something wrong?

I believe if you use QNEW to open the autocad.dwt files, it will become your new default. If not, you can set your default template in Options > Files > Template Settings.
