Californo Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Hi, I need to know please how to type letters like in the image below and that so they will follow the arch directions and to be stamped on the steel part or engraved on the stone Thanks, Quote
ReMark Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Letters can be "embossed" by using the IMPRINT command. Use the Express Tools command Arc Aligned Text for curved text. Quote
Californo Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 Do I just place the txt over the solid item and enter imprint then select the solid and then the text? because that didnt work for me Quote
ReMark Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 (edited) Funny, it didn't work for me either. I must have used a different text style. I'm baaaccckkk. OK. A cup of coffee was what I needed. I used the Express Tools Explode Text command then I used the Imprint command. Edited November 17, 2010 by ReMark Quote
ReMark Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Although the text and the circular object are one I can attest to the fact that the letters are indeed "imprinted' into the top of the solid. I used the Color Faces command to give them a different color than my solid. Quote
Californo Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 what is the explode text command? does the text must seat on the solid? coffe i dont have here good one I'm in China maybe that's the problem. Quote
ReMark Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 If you do not explode the text using the command I mentioned then Imprint will fail. If the text is not on the face of the solid the command will fail and AutoCAD will tell you: The selected object must intersect the faces of the solid. Quote
ReMark Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Another example. In this image the text was made into a solid using the PressPull command then subtracted from the circular solid. The text had to be exploded first. Quote
Californo Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 I'm sure U can do it! One sample was enough, another one doesn't answer my questions in any way. Can someone help Please??? Quote
Cad64 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 ReMark explained the procedure perfectly. What is the problem? Do you have "Express Tools" loaded? Did you run the TXTEXP command to explode the text? Did you use the IMPRINT command or PRESSPULL and SUBTRACT to emboss the text? What part of the procedure is not working? If you want help, you need to help us to help you. And please post your 3D questions in the "3D Modeling & Rendering" section. This is the third post of yours that I've had to move to that section. I was trying to demonstrate that you have more than one option. I thought I had answered all of your questions. If I failed to do so please repeat the question. Quote
Californo Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 I don't have the express tools loaded. How do I add them? thanks, Quote
ReMark Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Express Tools is an option on your installation DVD. Quote
JD Mather Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 (edited) It is still unclear to me where you want the lettering - on the flat planar face in an arc, or on the conical face wrapped around the cone? In the later case I think I would use a modern 3D CAD program like Autodesk Inventor (not sure if FREE Inventor Fusion will also do wrapped emboss/engrave - might be worth checking). ReMark Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 There is one thing you can try before grabbing your DVD. Search your hard drive. Is there a file called acetmain.cui on it? The is the Express Tools CUI file. If so, back in AutoCAD, try typing EXPRESSTOOLS at the command line. If this works you'll see the following... Customization file loaded successfully. Customization Group: EXPRESS Did this work? Yes/No/I don't know I wasn't paying attention? Quote
fuccaro Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 In AutoCAD 2006 I must use first the regular explode on arc aligned texts. Only after that it can be exploded with the txtexp express tool. And sometimes it do needs some more work like overkilling. Quote
Californo Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 I need it exactly like in your image, Can i do that with AUTOCAD 2011? Quote
Californo Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 Thanks, I guess what i'm missing is the express tools Quote
JD Mather Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I need it exactly like in your image, Can i do that with AUTOCAD 2011? It can be done in AutoCAD, but a lot of work. The arced text on the flat plane is not too difficult, but on the conical face requires placing text letter-by-letter after creating some construction geometry to easily change UCS as needed. Bit of work, but it can be done. If you have only a relatively small amount of text you might create your own letters rather than use a text font. Quote
qball Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I thought Arc Aligned Text was express tools too? But the OP has that. Quote
