browlinson Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 We are currently at the very early stages of implementing GIS, as well as just clean up and standardization of drawings. This is for a municipality of a population around 35,000, with around 14,000 properties. Currently, all drawings are purely linework. No objects or blocks. We are working at bringing in a consultant to help us forward, but that won't actually happen for the next month or two. One of our draftsman has been tasked with digitizing some as-built storm sewer information. She is currently doing the same old thing, just entering it in as line-work. Should we stop, and look at using either Civil Pipe Networks, or the Industry toolkit for wastewater? Some suggestions on the best way to move forward would be very appreciated! I feel like doing this work the same old way doesn't have much value. Thanks, bret Quote
BIGAL Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Just make sure everything is digitised onto layers the more layers the better you can join layers into 1 but its lots harder going the other way when you realise you should have done it that way in the first place. eg pipe100 pipe225 pipe300 Quote
browlinson Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 I was looking at this closer, and my feeling is that using full blown pipe networks feature might be too much work for us right now. I think we will go with the toolkit, but are going to have to modify it a bit. There is no 'catch basin' object classification in the wastewater toolkit (as I said we are doing storm sewer), so we will have to create that, but it looks like this it should be a good starting point. Cheers! edit: Bigal, that makes sense, I will make sure we are doing that as well. Quote
