Jpier Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I have created a solid wall in AutoCad 3D, first by drawing a rectangle and then giving it a thickness of 96" and I created a wall using the 3D box icon. I want to be able to punch holes in the wall for a door and window. I thought you could do that with the push/pull command. How do you cut a hole into a solid wall for a door or window? Quote
ReMark Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) Yes, the Press/Pull command can be used. Another option would be to subtract one object from another. By the way, you mention giving the wall a thickness of 96. First of all, I believe you mean a "height" of 96" right? And second, if you did use the command "Thickness" to give your wall a height then you will not be able to punch a hole through that wall. AutoCAD would be expecting a solid, a surface or a region. ReMark Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Example of second method mentioned. If your walls are indeed solids then Press/Pull should have worked. Quote
Jpier Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 One of the walls I created was a solid. I am confused how to use the Press/pull function. When I select a face of the solid, I don't know how to create a 2' x 2' window to punch through. I don't seem to have the option of sizing the punch thru hole Quote
ReMark Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 There is no sizing option. Draw an object on the face of your wall that approximates the size of your window opening. This is what you'll use to press and opening through your wall. Look at the first object in the image above to get an idea of what I'm talking about. The principle is the same only the command you use will be different. You do know how to reorient your UCS right? Quote
