Bobzy20 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Once again I'm trying to re-draw this item (see image below) but I'm finding it hard. Any ideas? (dwg file also attached) Thanks Bob Quote
ReMark Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Yes. Create the centerline profile then SWEEP a circle of the correct diameter along it and you are done. You have 7 minutes from now. GO! Quote
Bobzy20 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Yeah I can extrude a 10mm diameter circle along the profile path when drawn but I would love some help drawing the profile. Teach me ReMark. (Please) Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 OK, now I think you're just pulling my leg. The centerline, or profile path, appears to be comprised of a straight line and some arcs. Where could you possibly be having a problem? Your monitor is turned on isn't it? LOL Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Did you open the file? No, I did not. If I open the file I'm going to have to start charging you a consulting fee. Quote
Bobzy20 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Ok I will pay you 200 Afghanistan Afghanis Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Is this some kind of test? Did someone put you up to this? Have we met in a previous life? Maybe the last time I was sent back to the future? OK...you win. I reconstructed the centerline profile. Now what? Quote
Bobzy20 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Maybe you could send it over so I can re-view your wonderful work. In CAD format! Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Sure, right after you deposit my 200 Afgahnis in my super-secret Swiss bank account dude! Surely you jest? You really were unable to reconstruct the centerline? I thought you were just having some fun. Quote
Bobzy20 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 I haven't been doing 3D CAD for about 3 months now so I've lost my 3D power, I only just had it anyway. Quote
Bobzy20 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Tried to send the cash but my bank said you would need to pay $100 USD to cover my admin fees. Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) No special tricks were used to reconstruct the foot rail centerline. The one thing I did before I started was to rotate the foot rail so that it was straight up and down. After that I determined the centerpoint of each arc on one side of the rail. Once those three arcs were drawn and joined with pedit I drew the centerline of the straight section followed by mirroring the previously joined arcs to the other side. After that it was just a matter of sweeping a circle along each of those three centerlines. Give it a try and see what you can accomplish. Where are you digging up these "challenges" anyway? It's been a while since I posted this. Have you completed the task on your own? Time now: 12:27 p.m. Edited October 8, 2010 by ReMark Quote
Bobzy20 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 I've been trying to draw other bits but always having trouble! I just tried to draw the foot rest again after looking at what you said but I still don't know what to do. I'm copying a kitchen somebody has already drawn just to see if I can re-draw it. Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I'll post an image that might help. Hold on. In the words of the Terminator... I'll be back! Does this ^ ^ ^ help? Quote
Bobzy20 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Sorry boss, I'm no good at 3D stuff. Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Sorry boss, I'm no good at 3D stuff. Yes you are you just don't know it yet. With experience comes knowledge. With knowledge comes wisdom. Then the girls show up! Whoopie!! Can you at least get your foot rest rotated so that it is straight up and down and not at some funky angle? Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Yep all done I have Top view. I almost get the sense you did not rotate the object itself. Am I right? Quote
Bobzy20 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Oh dear no I didn't rotate it, sorry about that. How could I find out the correct rotation angle to bring it back so its laying flat on its plane again? Quote
