Ya I think I will just redraw the beams.

As a side note, I think this thread is helping other ppl, its only a few days old and has more views than almost everything under the 3D modeling category lol.

yea,, maybe. i think so too. but its policy that you must only post one question per thread. Cad64 might give you a heads up on this thread.

Good luck.

maybe you could someday post a shot of your first output at the showcase section. lookin forward to that.

:D

cheers

ps the name is shift ;)

glad your working your way through it. Its really not hard to model basic 3d object once you have a few of the basic concepts down.

My main reason for having to reorient the ucs a lot coz in 3d modeling you almost always have to rotate solids. I hate using rotate3d and only use it on a case to case basis where i need to rotate on an object or 2 points, but most of the time I just use Rotate with the proper UCS orientation.

I was just in cad and realized I do use it when I rotate solids.

I was just thinking, this is probably the longest thread in CADTutor history.

Nocturne is right though. There is no written policy stating that you have to do this, but it is better and more helpful for others, if you start a new thread when you have a question. It will also help you to get more responses from other members. If your question is related to the previous one you just asked, then you can continue in the same thread, but if it's a completely different question, you should start a new thread.

I mean, if you think about it, who has time to read through +100 posts to find the answer they're looking for?

So for any further questions, please start new threads.

I totally agree, thats why I thought I would say something. I started out with one question, then was like ah, will ask just one more... then we got on a roll...

Anyways lol, The 3D is really taking off now thanks to everyone's help! Thx! I will post in the showcase although I will have to change the dimensions a bit due to this being a work project that should not be redistrubuted.

Only real problem now I face is, when clicking on a object and drawing a poly line or writting text on a object (beam), the lines/text actually aprears way off in space once you orbit away from the object.

The only way I could get around this is making a line off the end of the beam for reference and either drawing or snaping the text to the end of that line. Is there any more better ways or more efficient ways of doing this?

text and dimensions will always be displayed in the xy plane at z=0. You can move your ucs around to alter their locations but its done this way because you usually. I usually shade objects and dimension multiple sides to hand them off to my machinist, makes things easier sometimes, and you have to be careful how you orient things.

good luck

:D I thought this would be the cadtutor record to punch thru 100 posts coz yesterday it was at i think 90+ already.

and also a user will think twice before posting an answer coz he/she may think that whatever he/she may post was already posted. come to think about it ive already forgotten some of what ive posted here :) .

Before I split up this thread, it was somewhere around 115 posts. Now I see there are more questions being posted. Oxygen, I thought you were going to start new threads from now on?

Yep good idea. its sort of funny if you reach Senior Level with only this thread. :D :D :D

thats going to be 2 records you'll set in CadTutor. Most posted thread and Senior level user on one thread only hahahahah

Cad64, to your next post, sorry, wont post on here unless new info comes. I think this thread is long enough as it is. :)
