Is is possible to export the bearing and distance only from the mapcheck analysis? I am trying to create a metes and bounds description of a parcel.

Have you tried using the Reports (in the Toolbox)?

Sinc,

What exactly is Land XML? I have tried to Google it and it seems like something that could be beneficial. You're right about creating a description from the Map Check, but I cant read the Land XML. Can I download a reader for it or do I have to by it somewhere?

Thanks!

When I click Export Metes and Bounds, it say, "Error displaying report in registered browser The specified file was not found. That has to be a Land XML issue, right?

Okay, I got the description t open up in Internet Explorer, I was using Chrome. Is there any way I change the rounding for the feet and degrees?

That "Error displaying report in registered browser" has been around since C3D 2008 SP1, and appears to finally be fixed in C3D 2011. The workaround in C3D 2008-2010 is to find the "CivilReport.html" file in your Temp directory ("C://Users/username/AppData/Local/Temp" for Vista/Win7 or "C://Documents and Settings/username/ApplicationData/Temp" for XP) and create a shortcut to it on your desktop or in your Start Menu. Then, after you run a report, click on the shortcut to open the "CivilReport.html" in your browser. That way you don't have to set your default browser to IE.

I think they finally made the precision settings available from within C3D in the 2011 version. Before that, you have to start up the LandXML Reporting utility, which is a separate program that gets installed along with Civil 3D. You can find it in the Start menu prior to C3D 2010. In C3D 2010, Autodesk removed it from the Start Menu, so you have to manually browse to the executable (in "C://Program Files/Autodesk" or "C://Program Files (x86)/Autodesk", depending on whether you're using a 32-bit or 64-bit OS).

Sinc, once again you are THE man! Thanks A LOT! So is C3D 2011 a lot better than 2010?

It isn't much different. The big change is in the way superelevations are handled. Supposedly, they put a lot of effort into reliability, and it hits fewer resources, so might run better on a 32-bit OS. And it's 64-bit, so if you've been encountering lots of "out of memory" errors, it should help.

But we've actually been holding back, waiting for a service pack. There have been a lot of hotfixes released so far, fixing some major problems with C3D 2011, but after years of being Autodesk customers, we've been trained to wait for the first SP before moving up to the latest release. And to tell you the truth, the only feature we really want is one that should have been built into C3D from the very beginning - namely, the ability to have digit grouping for large digits, so we can display "1,234,567" instead of "1234567". I guess it's the little things that mean the most... :)

Sinc,

Are these files customizable? I would love to export the coordinates with the POB then have the bearings come out in degrees(°), minutes('), seconds(''), instead of the N 45-00-00 E format. Right now I can export a "legal description" with the proper degrees, minutes and seconds, but it doesnt give the coordinates for the POB. I am a rookie with this stuff, so if its complicated then I will just type it in.

Yes, they are customizable. You can edit them in any text editor. They're kind of a pain, though... :o

They're kind of a mess. I made a similar change at one point, and I believe I ended up finding three different places where bearings were formatted.
