krides Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 I've got this problem. The hatch window opens, I select an area to hatch, click ok, and the thing just doesn't appear on the drawing. I tried everything, including switching between layers (how would that affect the hatches?), changing hatch samples etc. The thing is I need to fill a space in between two circles—one being placed inside the other. This just doesn't work. However, neither does the hatching work on squares, rectangles and triangles in this file. I say in this file, cause it does work in other files perfectly. I've tried copying the file from one PC to the other one, where CAD version is 2009 rather than 2010, and it still doesn't work. So, I'm pretty desperate at this point and I'd like to hear any suggestions. circles.dwg Quote
Cad64 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Which hatch pattern are you trying to use? Are you watching your command line? Autocad will tell you if the hatch fails. My guess would be that your hatch spacing is either too dense or too large. Try hatching again, but this time, watch your command line for clues. Also, try different patterns. Edit: I just tried to open your drawing but I got a message stating that your drawing was saved by an application that was not developed or licensed by Autodesk. What program was used to create this drawing? Quote
Cad64 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Ok, I opened your drawing but I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to do here. What exactly are you trying to hatch and what hatch pattern are you trying to use? Quote
krides Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 It was MS Visio, but I've deleted everything I have created there and started the drawing from scratch. I didn't create a new one though. By the way, I'm not getting any errors or fail messages in the command line. Also, I've tried about 30 different patterns, including SOLID. Doesn't work. Quote
krides Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 I'm trying to fill the circles with color. That's all to it. Quote
Cad64 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 It's your FILLMODE variable. Right now it's set to 0. Set it to 1 and your hatch patterns will show up. Quote
krides Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 Wow, that worked! Thanks a lot! That's great. You saved me. Thanks again. Quote
krides Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 Oh, another problem appeared. Selection seems to be weird. All even circles get painted whenever I select just one of them and the same thing happens to odd circles. I want it this way (perhaps, other colors, but you get the idea): Quote
Cad64 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 I'm not sure I follow? When you hatch 1 band of color, you're selecting 2 circles to create your boundary, correct? If you want the outer band to be pink, then you would select circles 1 & 2 as shown below. Is that what you're doing? Quote
krides Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 Not really, I'm adding selection point—that is, the whole space between circles 1 and 2. However, for some reason spaces between circles 3 & 4, 5 & 6 and 7 & 8 are selected. When I do like you say, another strange thing occurs. I'm not sure I can actually describe it this time, so I suggest that you see for yourself :-) Quote
Cad64 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Don't use selection points. You have no control over what Autocad decides to pick as a boundary. Use the method I described previously and select two circles to use for each boundary. As far as the strange thing that occurs, I'm afraid you will have to explain exactly what that is, because I'm able to hatch each band with no problem. Quote
krides Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 This happened when I have selected 1 & 2: This happened when I have selected 2 & 3: This happens all the time. Quote
Cad64 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Are you window selecting the circles? You need to select each circle individually. Click on circle 1 and then click on circle 2. As I mentioned, I'm not having any difficulty hatching each band of color using this method. You need to also be aware that there are overlapping circles. Circle 1 has 360 overlapping circles and circle 7 has 2 overlapping circles. You need to delete these redundant circles. This may be the cause of some of your problems. Quote
Cad64 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 So did you delete the overlapping circles? Were you able to hatch successfully? Don't leave me hanging! Quote
