Are these 2 separate .ipt files? If so you'll need to create an assembly file .iam and constrain the parts.

hi kencaz...thanks for replying...ya these are two different .ipt files...can u tell me how to create an assembly and constrain the parts...i am new to this software and just started to learn it..it would be a great help

Open a new Assembly, (.iam) and use "Place Components" and import both your Part, (.ipt) files.

Now use the constraint option from your browser, (your probably using the ribbon so it may be different), and add a couple of mate constraints on the edges of the lid to attach. you'll need a minimum of two constraints to get it lined up properly.

In your original post screenshot it looks like you have some grills for ventilation? If this is a sheet metal part that is stamped it would just leave a big hole. Try adding some ribs and spares to hold the inner islands. I believe Inventor 2010 and above has a "Grill" feature but I have not used it. You can also do them manually, however...

Good Luck

Students can get Inventor 2011 for free from h...p://ww.autodesk.com/edcommunity (u know what u have to type, i don't have permission to post links) . It's not so easy to find free tutorials and eboks, u have to be very persistent and google for them. First topic on this page is ''Inventor Related Websites and Resources'', so u can try with it. Also u can find tutorials on youtube, just tupe Autodesk Inventor tutorials and u will find what u need.

I think that u have to consult J.D. for book advice, but my opinion is that u can find great books on h...p://ww.cadcim.com. And this is the good 1, with many examples!

Here is a simple grill you can extrude cut. you can make any shape you want.

Here I just offset a few circles and lines then trimmed them up to extrude.

Shouldn't this be a new thread?

Why didn't you attach the ipt?

Why not use Contoured Flange - much easier than Bend Part or Fold Part?
