Hi guys, i currently have a map from the 1960's which i am currently trying to put into a digital form, to do this i am using a tablet (CalComp DrawingBoard iii).

However i am having major problems trying so set the reference system/border for the map so that i can start digitsing the detail of the map.

For instance it is possible to zoom in and out within autocad, which immediately wrecks any detailing already carried.

I am extremely new to this technique and need help; does anyone know how to set up autocad ready for digitsing, certain steps/procedures or know of any tutorials available on the web. I have not been able to find any of use.

Thanks.

Have you calibrated your digitizer with the map attached (Tablet > CAL)?

Hint: Can the tablet; scan your map, insert the image (at full scale) and recreate your map using 'Heads up digitizing'

Whenever i try to calibrate the tablet it says, "your pointing device cannot be used as a tablet" ??

Check Options > System

Is your 'Current Pointing Device' similar to this? It should be in order to use your tablet to digitize. If it's 'Current System Pointing Device', that's probably your problem.

Your help is awesome thanks, one final problem; when i digitise the detail of the map now if i have to move the main working screen, e.g. scroll up or down, side to side, when i place the puck back on the screen it is obviously in the wrong location. Is there any way round this or is just a case of being more zoomed out at the start of the digitising process.

Did you calibrate the tablet - assign coordinates to points on the digitizer? It's been awhile since I used a tablet; gave it up for a mouse when I learned to insert images.

IIRC you can't zoom, pan with the tablet on (toggle with F4).

Tablet on > digitize

Tablet off > zoom, pan, menus etc.

Again...

Hint: Can the tablet; scan your map, insert the image (at full scale) and recreate your map using 'Heads up digitizing'
